Meet Jit Balaram, Our Corporate Claims Manager (Non-Motor)

At MUA, we understand that handling claims isn’t just a back-office function, it’s where promises are tested, and trust is either earned or lost. That’s why we’re excited to kick off our new “Coffee with Wendy” series with someone who lives and breathes that very philosophy: Jit Balaram, our newly appointed Corporate Claims Manager – Non-Motor.

Jit isn’t new to the insurance world. In fact, he’s spent over 30 years across multiple markets and disciplines, building a reputation as someone who understands not only the technical depth of underwriting and reinsurance, but also the human side of claims. From senior leadership roles with partners in Mauritius, Africa, and across parts of Asia and Europe, Jit brings a 360-degree perspective that blends operational efficiency with a strong ethical compass.

 

So, who is Jit, beyond the title?

Jit has had a fascinating journey, from managing underwriting teams and launching new insurance platforms, to leading regional broking operations and driving business development across complex reinsurance markets. Most recently, he headed global broking operations at a reinsurance broking firm and served as General Manager with an international insurance broking firm, where he worked closely with global networks.

But what makes Jit truly stand out is his grounded approach to claims. He believes claims are not just about ticking boxes or settling numbers. For him, ‘each claim is a moment that carries weight—it’s a chance to reaffirm our role as partners, not just providers’.

 

What will Jit focus on at MUA?

In his role, Jit will be:

  • Streamlining claims processes to ensure faster, clearer communication with brokers and clients;
  • Enhancing transparency and promoting a collaborative claims experience where information flows easily;
  • Driving fraud prevention efforts, by implementing smart, proactive controls without disrupting genuine claims;
  • Providing analytical insights, turning data into actions that improve turnaround times, accuracy, and outcomes;
  • And most importantly, fostering stronger relationships with brokers, because claims are where partnerships are tested, and where they can truly shine.
